And We’re Off!

Early morning breakfast in the caf

After a week since returning from winter break and preparing for Goteborg we have finally arrived. The class met for an early morning breakfast at 7:00 am in the caf to try to combat our jet lag. We then headed to our final in class meeting to present our findings on the companies we will be visiting in the upcoming days, as well as interesting attractions we each found to do while we are in Sweden.

Our ride is here!

At 5:15 the entire class gathered at the flagpole and eagerly waited for the arrival of our bus and Professor JJ Shields. The coach bus and JJ soon arrived and the Sweden class of 2020 was off on their adventure. The class arrived at O’hare with plenty of time to check bags and get through TSA.

After an 8 hour journey to Copenhagen for our connecting flights, the team made it through passport control without a hitch. Our flight landed 30 minutes early which gave everyone a chance to walk around a little and prepare for our very short 40 minute flight to Goteborg.

At the very start of preparations for this trip JJ explained to us the importance of flexibility and “rolling with it” and that is exactly what our classmates Lauren and Robby had to do. While we were waiting for our flight to board almost an hour later Lauren discovered that her boarding pass had her assigned to a different flight than the rest of us that had already began boarding. Everyone scrambled to check and make sure their tickets were right and Robby noticed he was also scheduled for the same flight as Laruen. JJ, Lauren, and Robby rushed to ask if this was a mistake and if it could somehow be resolved. Unfortunately the airline could not change their tickets and they rushed to the correct gate and arrived to Goteborg an hour before the class. That was not an adventure anyone was expecting.

We picked up our luggage, met with the cabs and headed to our hostel. The hostel is near a variety of restaurants and shops. We unpacked a bit and then headed to dinner. We went to pasta haus right around the corner from our hostel and had a delicious meal. Everything on the menu looked delicious and it was very hard to chose what to have but ultimately I went with the Spaghetti Carbonara.

After Dinner we stopped at TinTin to get some desert and coffee. The space was very modern and cozy with plenty of seating for all of us. I can definitely see why students have enjoyed it so much in the past and plan to be back for a few more visits. We have a bus tour tomorrow and I can’t wait to see all of the places we’ve been talking about for the past week!

3 Takeaways

  • Always look at your boarding pass and make sure yours matches the group
  • Stay hydrated while you travel
  • See what others food looks like before spending $13 on a meal at the airport
